It's the key to gaining online visibility \u2014 not just in Google's blue links, but increasingly in AI Overviews, ChatGPT answers and Google's Local 3-Pack. Yet many small businesses stumble on the fundamentals, making mistakes that quietly cap their growth for months or years.  Here are the five mistakes we see most often \u2014 and exactly how to fix each one.  1. Ignoring local search intent  Many small businesses write content as if every visitor is searching nationally. In reality, most local businesses win or lose customers on hyper-local searches \u2014 \"plumber near me,\" \"private GP Fulham,\" \"best florist SW6.\" If your site doesn't explicitly target the neighbourhoods and postcodes you serve, you're invisible for the exact searches that convert best.  Fix: Build dedicated content for each area you serve, complete with local landmarks, postcodes, and a fully optimised Google Business Profile.  2. Treating technical SEO as optional  A beautiful website with broken technical foundations \u2014 slow load times, missing schema, blocked crawlers \u2014 will never rank consistently, no matter how good the content is.
